Wanted – An Ideal Principal

The Principal of a school is the pivot round which the school rotates .If he is weak and inefficient then the school suffers. If he is strong and efficient then the school marches forward.

The role of the Principal is manifold. Firstly he has to look after the students. He has to see to their needs and guide them in the proper way. Then he has to see that the teachers perform their duties well. A good Principal should be able to get the best out of the teachers who should work as a team for the betterment of the school. Others must accept him as their leader and he must be able to command their respect.

He also should have a very good relationship with the parents and past pupils .He should be able to obtain their assistance for the progress of the school. The Principal must be careful that such relationship will not lead to any wrong dealings. As head of the institution he should always maintain a healthy relationship with public officials and other important personalities whose assistance is required for the proper functioning of the school.

It is the duty of the government to look after the needs of the Principals who play such an important role in the education system.  It has to be admitted that several matters such as their recruitment, promotions, transfers and such other matters relating to their careers have been sadly overlooked or neglected.

Another important step taken by the present government is that plans are afoot for the setting up of an academy for Principals to provide required training.

The ultimate aim of the government is to see that all these steps taken by the government for the betterment of the Principals will result in the emergence of an ideal Principal ­a Principal who can be looked upon as the embodiment of all the virtues of a good Principal.
